Valleys and troughs. (Yes, I know.)

One thing I have noticed over the past few years is how I go through periods of inspiration and times when I can think of nothing new. I doubt that is at all unusual. In fact I wonder if our modern obsession with constantly doing something is both draining us and blinding us to the fact that like so many aspects of life inspiration often comes in cycles.

Take photographic 365 projects for example. How likely is it that each shot is going to be brilliant, challenging and new? Perhaps there will be some masters of the craft who can manage that but I suspect for many people there will be days when they approach the end of their day, realise they haven’t taken a photograph and just go for what they can find. I know that happens to me. I know my ideal of ensuring each image was shot with the Canon was long since gone for a burton. Now I have to admit each day has an image but not all of them are wonderful. Sometimes that is because it just all seems like so much of a hassle.

However here we are well into January, I began in September and there is a slight sense of accomplishment that I have endeavoured to capture something every day.

My writing is in an even worse state. Where once I wrote every day, often several times a day elsewhere, now getting the thoughts from head to screen are definitely limited.

What about you? Do you find your interests flow along fairly smoothly and evenly or do you also have peaks and dips in your inspiration? I would love to hear from you.

I hope somewhere in it today treats you kindly.
